Our investment approach is to acquire strategic or controlling stakes in established companies which have the following attributes:

As far as strategic and value investments are concerned, the group has stakes in Telkom, the Distell Group, Afrisun Leisure and MCG Industries. WIPHOLD also has significant shareholding in human capital development provider, Adcorp, and USB-Ed, the executive education arm of the University of Stellenbosch Business School.

SA Corporate Real Estate Fund is a real estate investment trust listed on the JSE Limited, which has a diversified portfolio of 191 properties valued at R9.0 billion. The properties are split sectorially by value into industrial 34%, retail 57%, and office 9% and geographically Gauteng 41%, Kwa Zulu Natal 45% and Western Cape and other 14%.

USB Executive Development Ltd (USB-ED) is the executive education arm of the University of Stellenbosch Business School. USB-ED has been offering open and partnership programmes since 2001, when the Business School decided to consolidate its shorter programmes and to deliver executive education via one contact point. USB-ED has since structured its services into open programmes, corporate partnership programmes, leadership and organisational development, and consulting.

Financial Services

WIPHOLD’s operational investments in the financial sector are dominated by strategic partnerships with banking and financial services giants, Old Mutual, Nedbank and Mutual & Federal, but also include holding in niche financial service providers, WipCapital, Legae Securities, Legae Capital as well as a strategic partnership with Russell International Investment Management Services. These operational investments are managed by performance contracts agreed annually.
