People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA)
POWA is a feminist organisation that fights for women rights by providing critical services, and engaging in advocacy to ensure the realisation of women’s rights, ultimately improving their lived experiences. POWA’s work is rooted in the belief that effective change can only occur when women’s lives are directly improved through our interventions. POWA believes that there is no single route to change, and is therefore constantly seeking new and creative approaches.
Kwa Drabo Trust
The Kwa Drabo Trust seeks to empower women in the rural villages of the Eastern Cape by focusing on four key areas: rural farming, research into thoracic cancer, education and AIDS awareness and education. To this end, the Trust runs educational workshops and seminars to raise awareness, preschool activities and conducts farming activities on leased land.
The South African Society of Bank Officials (SASBO)
SASBO is a finance union that makes a positive difference to the lives of its members by influencing stakeholders within and connected to the banking sector, providing professional services, protecting members in the workplace (with a particular focus on women), and enhancing their lives.
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA)
DENOSA, established in 1996, is the largest nurses’ trade union in the country with over 84 000 members. It offers training to nurses with a dual focus on both trade union and professional development.
National Baptist Church
The National Baptist Church empowers women by building confidence and knowledge in the use of financial instruments. It encourages women to fundraise in their local contexts and teaches them to invest on a national level. The organisation hosts workshops, seminars, and informal meetings to address social issues.
Tshwaranang Legal Advocacy Centre
The Tshwaranang Legal Advocacy Centre to End Violence Against Women promotes the rights of women to live their lives free from the fear or experience of violence. Tshwaranang’s specific mission is to uphold the right to justice for survivors of gender-based violence.
Tshepang Educare Trust
The Tshepang Educare Trust trains women in under-served farming communities and small towns to deliver early childhood development programmes to young children.
Thandanani Children’s Foundation
The Thandanani Children’s Foundation provides shelters for AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children in the Midlands area of KwaZulu-Natal. Childcare workers provide care and comfort to sick, orphaned and abandoned children at hospitals.
Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust
The Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust addresses the persistent challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment in Southern Africa through the provision of educational opportunities, skills and entrepreneurial development as well as promoting awareness around health.
