COMPANY STRUCTURE

Just one year after its establishment in 1994, WIPHOLD became the first South African company to establish a permanent, broad-based shareholding.

It achieved this through the development of an investment trust giving indirect shareholding to thousands of women. The WIPHOLD Investment Trust owned a 14.8% stake in WIPHOLD, with women beneficiaries receiving 80% of each distribution and the remaining 20% directed to NGOs supporting black women and children.

In 2023, the WIPHOLD Investment Trust’s shares were bought back by the WIPHOLD allowing the beneficiaries to realise their initial investment made. Trust beneficiaries have received over R191 million in dividends since inception.

In 2003, WIPHOLD extended their broad-based economic empowerment strategy and formed the WIPHOLD NGO Trust. With a shareholding of 18.7% in the company, this gave WIPHOLD the opportunity to amplify its efforts in advancing women empowerment.
